Art Theft: Part 2

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 2, 2014, 1:55 AM

EDIT: shop owner has now removed artwork! Thanks everyone :-)

---------------------------------------------

I suppose it never ends! Despite putting watermarks on all my work now, these little thieves still manage to sink their grubby claws into it.

Today, it's this person: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PhoneFluf…;

If you have a moment, please report her shop. Even though the other stolen art is familiar, I'm not sure who the artists are, so if you know them, please inform them! Or tell me and I'll inform them

Thanks everyone :)

Grrr I am so angry at this happening time and time again.... I sent this email to their legal department:

Hello,

I am writing to bring awareness to an Etsy seller who has stolen so much artwork from various artists to use as product.  I did not want to sign up for an Etsy account just to report this, as I am strongly opposed to the policies where time and again I have seen artist colleagues blatantly ripped off by sellers on Etsy with no consequence, so I am writing my complaint to you.

Here is an example of this seller’s infringement, much like so many I have seen in the past year:

Seller product:

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/181910…

Actual artist on DeviantArt:

briannacherrygarcia.deviantart…

Upon reviewing the seller’s artwork being sold for phone cases, etc, I see TONS of artwork that is from other artists.  As the provider of the service who is also making money from the products, Etsy is enabling this fraud and is responsible and accountable for controlling this theft.... You are NOT a third party to the issue.   It’s time to change your policies.  In the meantime, please investigate this one case.

I don’t expect a response.  I have thousands of followers and I will continue advocate against using your site.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for bringing this to Etsys attention. I think the majority of the time is that the art thiefs arent actual artists, therefore dont appreciate how frustrating it is for people to profit off a painting you might have spent weeks working on. Its so annoying to know she's made money off my artwork! Oh well, she's taken them down now. I hope the person on facebook has taken down your art too.

I hate art theft.  A few days ago one of my drawings appeared on a facebook page of an artist saying it was their newest piece, which was so stupid because my signature was clearly visible!  I was happy to see literally hundreds of people calling them out on it, and posting a link to my dA page... Honor exists!   I will help out and report this for you!
