Jasmine... and Rajah! Part of my Disney Nouveau... series thing... I guess lol.

Anyone else find it ironic that she's obsessed with freedom but keeps a pet tiger? Just me? Huh...

Edit: I know Rajah is probably happy at the palace, 'cause it's Disney and all, I was speaking from a symbollic perspective, not a literal one :-)

Used many references from google images for the tiger :-)

What if I freely choose to be a SLAVE?!   ...oh wait, I think I get what you mean now...
This is GORGEOUS!! Princess Jasmine has always been my favorite! Please do more of her! Your multiple depictions of other Heroines adds dimension to their characters without compromising their uniqueness.

And yes! It is ironic that she kept Raja for a pet. It'd be cool if you did a series dedicated to animal sidekicks, telling their perspective.

It's interesting to think about Raja as a symbol of her younger sister/brother and emotional avatar. Arguably, before we meet Jasmine, she romanticizes life outside the palace, and with these privileges I don't think that she would have accepted Raja as a gift and that because he too grows up in privilege and like Jasmine, although he presumably gains perspective by the end of Jasmines character arc, neither of them can remove their experiences pre-Aladdin-encounter and ultimately Jasmine doesn't gain her freedom either because her role as ruler is still dependent on her marriage. She gets the choice of marriage, but she never gets to be truly free.

Or maybe that's all bullshit. I did dig into my childhood memories/emotions to come up with that. I would never own a Tiger (because I wasn't gifted one at any point), but in my version of heaven I'd get to have big cats as friends.

Anyway. Great work!

This is my favorite of the series. I love her independent and confident aura. The tiger is also a great part of the image: so regal and proud.

Hannah-Alexander Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Hehe, i don't remember what they are! Well, the flowers in her hair are jasmine because I was feeling lazy lol. can't remember what the other is, sorry! If I find out (it's probably scribbled on the original sketch somewhere!) I will be sure to tell you.

Hah, never thought of the irony. I love this, it is beautiful. My only complaint is something that has plagued me since I was a child...How does she not fall out of that top?!! ;P

Tape. Hehehe. I dunno, maybe she does but Disney carefully edited it out hahaha ;)

Raja is probably my favourite part of this, so thank you :D

As for the symbolism it is probably a reference to Jasmine herself not really able to go anywhere because the only alternative for the tiger is the Arabian Desert which is like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I know what you mean but I read a kids book when I was younger that attempted to explain how Aladdin got Abu and Jasmine got Rajah.

I absolutely agree with you about the tiger vs freedom. The movie made a big show of her freeing that cage full of birds, but I suppose she didn't know what to do with a huge carnivorous beast. XD

Gorgeous work, by the way. Saw your Disney Nouveau series on Tumblr and came right over here to see your gallery. Very glad I did.

I always got the impression that the only way Rajah would leave her would be as a large furry corpse.

I love these characters...they don't have that "Disney"face, too cutesy for my tastes...Bravo! I like that Ariel is not in her mermaid form.

wow I really like this  you drew Jasmine so different from the traditionl way, that's what really caught my eye. I love all the traditional elements you've added in the background. She really looks pretty, and not to mention proud. Wonderful job  She's one of my favorite disney characters so this really made my day!~
